I live in the Finger Lakes Region of the Southern Tier of NYS. The issue of water rights has been brewing for months. So I wasn't surprised to read in this week's 'Review and Express'(10-7-09)and the Montour Falls Village
Board notes (p 2) the issue brought up.

However, I was surprised to see one part of the Board notes that reads:

"The village was
approached by Moody Associates who is looking to buy bulk water for use
in Marcellus Sale gas drilling. Board member Jim Howell said it would
be a source of revenue. However, he said there was still the question
of state-up cost to be able to sell water in bulk."

Surprised because the economy of this area is very dependent on water - abundant and safe water. This is aside from the fact that we humans happen to be wholly dependent.

I am hoping others reading this article and my comment will contact me and direct me to other resources.
